Return to Case Studies
DDS Demolition undertook the demolition and land remediation in two phases. The site comprised of former brickworks which included the presence of drying sheds, kilns, production buildings and stores.
The buildings were brick and steel framed with several of the buildings containing corrugated asbestos cement sheet roofs. Structures were in poor condition and a partial collapse had occurred in several of the buildings.
During the demolition phase, buildings were demolished down to slab level. Asbestos debris and hydrocarbon contamination was identified within the soft landscaped areas. Due to the extent of contamination, DDS formulated a bespoke remediation strategy that was accepted by the Local Authority and Environment Agency whilst remaining commercially viable for the client.
The implemented remediation strategy that formed phase two of the project, comprised the removal and off-site disposal of isolated hydrocarbon hotspots. All visual asbestos products were removed, and a soil swap exercise undertaken. The soil swap consisted of stripping the made ground down to virgin clay, excavating cells within the soft landscaped areas and placing the contaminated ground into the cells capping with clean site won material.
The completed remediated site was left clean for future developments. All works were successfully validated by Geo Environmental.
