The site was situated immediately opposite the popular tourist attraction, Dover Castle and throughout the works we maintained safe public road access through the site to the Fort. Due to the close proximity to live environments, significant dust and vibration suppression was required throughout the duration of the demolition.
The programme was successfully accelerated in its early stages due to the presence of bats on site causing a subsequent delayed start date. Additional swift and efficient action was required to mitigate programme slippage, safely and with minimal disruption, upon discovery of an unexpected presence of asbestos within the ground.
DDS retained structures within the existing squash court area, converting them into ‘bat hotels’. New roof structures were constructed to accommodate the specific requirement of individual species of bats on site.
Based on the successes of Connaught Barracks, the quality of works on site and management of the programme, DDS Demolition were awarded the demolition works at Farnborough Police Station for WYG and their client HCA.
