Kent Wool Growers

Demolition of non-listed and no-curtilage listed commercial buildings, whilst protecting grade II listed buildings on site.

DDS Group undertook the demolition of numerous buildings occupying the former Kent Wool Growers site, many in a state of structural decline and therefore unsafe to enter. Within the Southern shed, asbestos was identified in the form of sheeting and ARB to the internal faces of the gable ends. The project therefore commenced with extensive licensed and non-licensed asbestos removal works. In addition, a Flood Risk Activity Permit (FRAP) was obtained due to the River Stour neighbouring the site boundary, with significant emphasis placed on preservation of the riverbank stability and aquatic biodiversity throughout the works.

Demolition was conducted in a traditional mechanical manner, efficiently controlled and supervised to prevent unexpected collapse of the structurally compromised buildings. Properties were demolished to ground slab level with the exception of the moduler units on site, below which we carried out a reduced level dig – reinstated with crushed material and a geotextile membrane to prevent unwanted vegetation growth.
