DDS Demolition carried out the demolition of the former Dover leisure centre which included the protection and preservation of the grade II listed historical ruins of St James church, which sat on the outskirts of the site.
The mixed construction leisure centre buildings, ranging between steel frame and concrete structures, were demolished down to ground level, followed by break out of ground slabs and foundations under archaeological watch brief. To avoid unnecessary vibrations, which may have disturbed the historical church structures, non-percussive machinery was utilised, in the form of rotating cracking methods.
Throughout the project, DDS assisted the safe removal of significant items from the scheme such as a large clock, goods from the sports hall, a reception desk, lockers, pool timing equipment, and DDA specialist items. Each of the items were recovered and provided to the client for future use.
