Demolition of various buildings, as part of a 1,200-home development; the works included a mixture of single and two-storey buildings.
DDS undertook the demolition of various buildings as part of a 1,200 home development at Risborough Barracks. The deconstruction of the mixed-storey buildings, of mostly steel frame construction, commenced with the supervised removal of roof finishes, under a bat EPS license. Demolition was then undertaken mechanically, employing a rage of heavy-duty excavators. All slabs, foundations and hardstandings were broken out, with all arisings being crushed to a 6f2 specification and stored on site for re-use during the construction phase. Throughout the process, site remediation works was required, due to the identification of localised hot spot contamination, to ensure the site was handed over in a hazard free condition.
Throughout the project, DDS placed high focus on sustainability, segregating waste into individual streams, and removing all salvageable materials with minimal damage. Maintaining consistent liaison with Taylor Wimpey, we were able to collaboratively identify and salvage items of significant historical value. As a result, a recycling rate of 97% was achieved during this project.
